Violin & Piano

An active musician with multiple orchestras and ensembles, violinist Amber Cheung’s list of awards and honors includes First Place of the Clear Lake Symphony Concerto Competition (2004), Third Place of the Virtuosi of Houston Concerto Competition (2004, 2005), Prize Winner of the Houston Young Artist Concert (2003), Audition Winner of the Texas All-State Orchestra (2004, 2005) and Fellow of the Texas Music Festival (2003).  

Ms. Cheung’s extensive orchestral appointments include concertmaster with the Longy Conservatory Orchestra (2005-2011), the Virtuosi of Houston Orchestra, principal second violinist with the Orford Academy Orchestra, and the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra, as well as violinist with the Boston Philharmonic, the Boston Civic Symphony, the Atlantic Symphony and the Harvard Musical Association Orchestra. She has performed at landmark venues and concerts, including the Esplanade in Singapore, the Fringe Club in Hong Kong, and at the Houston Young Artist Concerts.
   
At the age of four, Ms Cheung started her musical training in piano.  She was a prize winner in the Houston Music Teachers Association piano contests, and was on the honor roll of the National Piano Playing Auditions of the American College of Musicians for many years.  After high school, she continued to study piano at the conservatory level.  Ms. Cheung received her Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance with Pedagogy Emphasis and her Undergraduate Diploma in Violin Performance with Distinction both from the Longy School of Music. She studied violin with Laura Bossert, and piano as a second instrument with Hugh Hinton.  Ms. Cheung is a former participant of various summer music programs, including LyricaFest, Quartet Program, Encore School for Strings, Heifetz International Music Institute, and Texas Music Festival.
