​Dr. Valerie Liu

Guzheng

Dr. Liu started to learn Guzheng since she was 8 years old. By the age of 13, she had already obtained the certificate of Guzheng Performance at Level 10 (highest), after only 5 years of learning. Prior to GIPAC Academy, Dr. Liu had run an art studio, offering lessons in playing Guzheng, Chinese calligraphy, and other related traditional topics in Rochester, NY, Amherst, MA, Huanggang, Hubei & Naning, Guangxi. She believes learning Guzheng is the key to understand and appreciate the beauty of Chinese traditional culture. 

She earned her Ed.D. in Innovation, Technology & Education at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and full time teaching position at Harvard University. Those degree and experiences have empowered her incorporating innovative strategies into Guzheng teaching. In her free time she likes producing remixed Guzheng media products to showcase the world about her students’ extraordinary performing works. She won the Community Outreach Award by the Chinese School of Rochester in June 2013, for making the efforts (presentations, music events) in introducing Chinese Traditional Culture to local communities.
